Another Delay

So here I sit in the Dallas fortworth international airport waiting my connecting flight which was supposed to take off 30 minutes ago but instead it isn't leaving for at least another 45 minutes.

I should make it to San Diego by 1245 am pst. Sigh.

Things that scare the crap out of me

I did manage to close my eyes for a few minutes and am feeling much better. Hopefully my flight will start boarding soon.

My sister in law text me to let me know my brother is sick and running a fever. She thinks he may have pneumonia. If that's the case I may just extend my stay at the hotel if possible. My history of respiratory problems does not mix well with someone with a communicable respiratory infection.

Begin the vacation

Well kind of, I got to the airport really early because I was super afraid I'd be running late since I was taking the train to the airport.

Now my flight is delayed. At this point I have no concerns about making my connecting flight to San Diego. I'm just tired and was looking forward to sleeping on the plane.

GAH!!!

I had a frustrating day. I woke up much later than I wanted, tried for a 7 mile run and experienced pretty severe pain about 1.4 miles in and tried to walk/run/walk but failed miserably as I could only run for about 0.1 miles. This crap has to end.

I'm going to try for my 8 mile tomorrow.

Oh and some chick riding her bike on the trail apparently didn't realize her shorts were see through, and she wasn't wearing underwear...

Three Things Thursday

1. I got a GARMIN!!!! I bought a Garmin Forerunner 610 today. So freaking excited!

2. I haven't run at all this week... :(

3. I got a really nice compliment from someone I work with today and it kept me from having the desire to call into work every day until my ETO ran out...

Great Motivation!

So, I got the best motivation ever last night at work. This was how it happened...

Coworker (while pointing at my stomach) : Congratulations on your pregnancy.
Me : I'm not pregnant. Who told you that?
Coworker : No one.

Then he was gone...

This is what I wanted for lunch...

Instead, I had a fried chicken salad (300 calories) and an apple.

Rock N Roll San Diego

Just 2 weeks away! I'm super excited about this race. I'm very blessed to have so many great races in my area that I've never traveled to run a race. I don't travel much anyway but this is very exciting for me because I'll get to see my brother and his 2 kids I'll be staying with them for my 4 days in Cali.

Down side is that I'm still scheduled to work 3 days while I'm away and I'm working to find trades. Otherwise we'll see how pissed work gets when call in those days.

Live Well Ferguson Twilight 5K

I almost missed it. I almost talked myself out of running it. I almost went back to sleep.

But I didn't.

I had such a busy day. I had worked until 2:45 AM, I didn't manage to get any sleep before leaving at 6:45 AM to pick up the kids for the heart walk at Busch Stadium with my fellow ER cohorts. I had the kids until 2 pm and I consumed a ridiculous amount of caffiene to make it to 25 hours without sleep. Once I dropped the kids off I drove home and crashed. I didn't wake up until 5:15, race at 6, 40 minute drive according google maps and the overwhelming desire to just go back to sleep. Once I talked myself into going I had to haul but I made it to the start line 2 minutes before the gun.

Overall, the race was very nice and is possibly one of my favorite races. Honestly I'd rank it above all the other races I've run. For being a fairly small local race it was well run, with a surprising amount of spectators. The course was primarily residential and the roads were shut down for us, tons of people were out in their lawn chairs cheering us on. Several people had sprinklers set out on the sidewalk for us to run through which was awesome given the heat and humidity. We ran past the fire department which had some kind of wicked awesome spinning sprinkler on the fire hydrant in front of the fire house.

The finish line was crowded but the spirit was great! The volunteers were amazing and the after party was small but was so much fun. It was one of the few times I stayed after a race just to enjoy the activities. However the fact that I had only had 2.5 hours of sleep soon caught up with me. I grabbed dinner and then came home and crashed.

Overall time was 39:35

Oh and I ran naked. ;) No music, no gps. More on that later. Also I'll add pictures once I can get my pics off my camera.

Back To It

Yesterday was scheduled to be my first day back to running with a 5 miler but I was lazy. So I'm going to do the 6 miler I have planned for today. I've missed running but at the same time I really don't want to get out of bed right now, but that might have something to do with how much I drank last night.

An Update

So what exactly does a running blog contain when the runner is injured?

Well a gripe for starters. My little hometown held its first 5k a week ago and I missed it. I'm sad, I'm bummed, I'm a little ticked. I'll be there for year 2 though.

A little about cross-training, perhaps, P90X day 2 done, took it a bit easy because it was plyometrics and I'm supposed to be giving my foot a break. Even so I can definitely feel some soreness in my butt so I did something. The past two days haven't felt really, horribly tough, I keep reminding myself that I'm doing the necessary modifications and that the point of it all isn't to kill myself cause if I was killing myself I wouldn't want to do it. I can definitely feel some soreness, so that means that I'm doing something and that I just need to keep it up. Also I haven't done cardio yet. My asthma makes all cardio feel like I'm dying so I'm sure I'll get that, I worked really hard, feeling from that.

How about something about the recovery? I will say that 2 days off of work has given me more relief than anything else. I'm thinking the doc was right when she said a large part of my pain might be my nursing shoes.
This is what I'm currently wearing.
This is what she wants me to switch to if I stick with the clogs.

I'll have to check out the store to see if they have anything in a narrow size in a style that doesn't rest so tight against my tendons. I'm bummed that I can't keep wearing my nursing clogs. They are the only shoe I've found that are truly comfortable and that are holding up to the amount I work. If it's the difference between an injury that keeps me from running and that keeps me from working, since I'm on my feet anywhere from 36-60 hours a week, or having tired feet at the end of the night.

Something about work maybe? Well I'm supposed to work today at noon. I need to wash my scrubs or else I'll be going to work naked and I don't have a washer and dryer so I need to get up early so that I can go to the laundry mat and do the laundry I should have done on my 2 days off. But I can't sleep because I slept all day yesterday because I was exhausted. I have no idea how I'm going to be able to survive a 12 hour shift on 3 hours of sleep but I have to do it.

How about my personal life? I posted something about possibly becoming a homeowner. I looked at a house the other week and I wasn't to thrilled about the house but the piece of land it was on was exactly what I was looking for. I'm torn between buying the property and knocking down the house and building new or just keeping on looking. Besides for now I'm still short of the total amount I'd like to have saved up for a down payment and I'd like to have a lot more debt paid off before I venture into home ownership.

I think that is enough for today. :)

Saw the doc today

The official diagnosis is tendinitis. I'm so thankful that it isn't a stress fracture. Doc says 1 week off of running and to wear different shoes at work.

P90X & Pain & PFTW

Did my first day of P90X! Chest and back and Ab Ripper X, not to horrible. I was definitely sweating and for the record I have piss poor upper body strength and my core is gonna need a lot of work. I didn't feel like I was going to die and managed to get in my 3 miler afterwards. Plyometrics is on the schedule for tomorrow.

Before I go for tomorrow's run and do tomorrows P90X routine, I'm going to have to be honest with myself and go get an X-Ray of my foot. I have had a pain on the top of my foot that radiates to my big toe and my working 50 hours a week and running aren't helping, So I'm going to suck it up and see a doctor and pray it isn't a stress fracture.

Sunday : P90X Chest & Back, Ab Ripper X and 3 miles
Monday : P90X Plyometrics and 5 miles
Tuesday : P90X Shoulders & Arms and Ab Ripper X
Wednesday : P90X Yoga X and 6 miles
Thursday : P90X Legs & Back, Ab Ripper X and 1 mile
Friday : P90X Kenpo X and 1 mile
Saturday : P90X X Stretch and 1 mile

P90X

Yep I ordered it. Should be here tomorrow. I might die.

What a Freaking Run

Well, I guess you can't really call it a run. It was more of a walk. I mean what else can you call an average of 15:30 mile.

I had a procedure done today at my doctor's office, warning possible TMI. I had an IUD placed today, it hurt like a b*tch at the time and the doctor told me to take a NSAID and I was fine to run but that I'd be tender for a few days. I got a little more than a mile and half into the run and I started to hurt, not to bad but it was there. So I walked a little more than normal. Then when I tried to pick it up again, running caused a sharp stabbing pain on the left side of my pelvis. I was fine so long as I just walked and didn't run. So I figured I'd just walk back and get my 3 miles in whatever way my body would let me get them in. So all was fine with the pain so long as I was walking but I started noticing that my left hand felt kind of tight. I've always dealt with some minor swelling in my hands when I walk more than I run but it usually isn't anything. However this time when I looked at my hand I freaked out just a little bit. My left hand was pretty swollen, especially my fingers, kinda like sausages. Anyway I got home, propped up my feet and took a midol for both pain and the diuretic to help remove the extra fluid.

For now, I'm feeling ok, I have the occasional twinge of pain but it's getting better. I've got a 1 mile run planned for the next three days and then a 5 mile run planned for Saturday, hopefully I'll be feeling better by then. Really hoping I'll be up for my San Diego half marathon in a month.

I'm hoping that this Mirena won't effect my training or my weight or mood, etc.
