Dresses, Miles and the end of January!

Sorry I missed yesterday's post. I spent the afternoon with my mother, my future mother in law, and my best friend/man of honor doing some wedding dress shopping. After about an hour I found the perfect dress. Can I just say I don't understand how many of the brides out there do the big floor length gowns with trains that go out the door? I couldn't stand it and all the crap I had to wear under it! I tried on a couple different floor length gowns before I was almost in tears I was so uncomfortable and unhappy with how I looked in the gowns. I asked the lady at the store if I could try some tea length gowns.

When she finally came back with a few length gowns, I got to take off that damn slip and put on the tea length dress. I felt so much better! I went out and saw myself in the mirror I was so much happier and more comfortable and thought I looked so pretty. I tried on one other tea length dress just to make sure that it wasn't the comfort. I got one look at myself in the mirror with the other dress and I was like nope. I put the other dress back on and I was sold. Well technically the dress was sold but stil!

After that I spent a little more time with my mom until I started to feel under the weather again. My throat and ears got really sore and I just wanted to get some sleep. I ended up coming home and cooking a quick dinner and heading to bed.

After 16 hours of sleep, I managed to peel myself out of bed and try to be productive. I managed to clean the house and complete my 4 mile run, that was technically on the schedule for yesterday but since today was a rest day anyway I just figured I would flip them. I felt pretty good during the entire run and have been feeling good for all my runs this week but the full marathon schedule I am currently training with has me scheduled for 12 miles tomorrow.

I'm still doing 4:1 walk:run intervals so a mile is taking me about 15 minutes. The weather is supposed to get pretty nasty here tonight and everything is supposed to have a thin layer of ice under an inch or so of snow. I don't know that I am willing to chance an injury or an asthma attack to run outside. I still don't have a replacement for my Garmin that was broken by one of my coworkers broke and still hasn't paid me back for so I would have to rely on my iphone for tracking. What I'm trying to say here is just that I'm kinda stuck on the treadmill for now. 12 miles, almost 3 hours on the treadmill sounds a little painful.

Either way 12 miles on the treadmill can't be more stressful than planning a wedding and hey, I'll burn enough calories for a nice treat.

Since it's the last day of January I thought I would update my resolutions.
Miles completed 19 (miles completed Jan 2013 9)
No races completed.

6 miles done

I still have days that this cold seems to come back to bite me. Last night and this morning was one of those days. I slept most of the day and didn't get out of bed until noon after taking a 2 am dose of NyQuil.

I didn't manage to knock much off my general to do list today but I did complete my 6 miles that was on my schedule. I did it on the treadmill. It has still been just cold enough and my respiratory tract is just reactive enough right now that I don't want to risk a full blown asthma attack.

My run definitely was more mentally taxing than physically taxing. I felt pretty good throughout the run but after 3 miles I had to keep convincing myself to keep going to 6 miles. I'm very proud of convincing myself to finish since I haven't ran that distance in a while.

My schedule calls for 4 miles tomorrow which will bring me up to 19 miles for the month of January. Which is better that 8 months of the previous 12. Tomorrow I'm also meeting my mom, future mom-in-law and best friend/man of honor for some wedding dress shopping so that should be interesting.

My first Vlog!

So as much as I truly hate the idea of a video of me existing on the interwebs, I went ahead and made a vlog to give some quick updates. I'm really going to try to be better about posting more frequently. Until then, I hope you enjoy watching this!

First Run of 2014

The weather here has been a little harsh, what with 14 inches of snow and temps in the -30 range. My fiancé, the kiddo and I have been snuggled up and at home. The snow started on Sunday morning and it was coming down pretty hard, a friend of Caleb's, who lives in the same apartment complex as us, came over and spent all day with us. By all day I mean all day, I made from scratch pancakes, sausage links and hash browns so we invited him over to enjoy a nice home cooked meal. The kiddo and I headed to Wal-Mart a little bit later in the morning for a few things that we needed for dinner and I ended up getting the kiddo some snow boots and snow pants so he could enjoy the snow. The drive home was less than fabulous as the weather was really get nasty and the roads were getting bad. The four of us enjoyed the day with a delicious lunch and dinner with lots of games, movies and snow play for the day.

Luckily, I have been off work Saturday - Monday and go back to work tonight and Caleb told all of his employees to work from home and he has been doing the same. The roads and the sidewalks are still to bad for me to even think of running outside right now, not to mention the temperature being 2 degrees F when I left for the gym today.

Anyway, I finally did it, I got back on the wagon with my first 3 miles of 2014. I am out of shape so I'm currently doing a walk 4 minutes/run 1 minute interval, it pans out to just about a 15 minute mile and I ended up finishing my 3 miles in 44:56. My right ankle gave me a little trouble and I will definitely need to work on stretch and strength in addition to my cardio but I'm hoping for a great 2014!

2014 Goals

2013 was a less than stellar year for me in terms of my running.

January - 9 total miles
February - 27 total miles
March - 3 total miles
April - 2 total miles
May - 8 total miles
June - 23 total miles
July - 9 total miles
August - 16 total miles
September - 23 total miles
October - 30 total miles
November - 0 miles
December - 3 total miles

Overall - I ran 153 miles in 2013. I ran 0 marathons, 2 half marathons, 0 10ks, and 2 5ks. Better than nothing but still not where I would have like to have been.

My hopes for 2014 include

75 + miles per month
Run 1 marathon, 2 half marathons, 3 10ks and 4 5ks and maybe, just maybe run a 50k.

And… My fiancĂ© and I have officially set a date for our wedding and on August 8, 2014 we will be getting married!

Happy New Year!
